My anger is not solely focused on the above mail. I recently took interview for couple of guys and i can only say the quality of knowledge in so called programmers are even worse than what i was 2 yrs back. Do your job not for money but for the love of it. I love programming which is why i have been able to survive in this industry for 7 long years. If you think programming is a drag then either you are in the wrong industry or your junior or superior is in the wrong industry. I have worked only in two companies, where i have been lucky to get mentors who love what they and not keeping bitching about the job like this. Every single job invented by man has pressure and stress, you expect to get paid high yet you are not ready to compensate for that package. I mean, c'mon people, how bad can it get, try being a Chartered Accountant or a maybe something like a Traffic Police, then you would really understand the value of being software professional. We get paid good amount for sitting on our assess and writing some line in a ever changing world of technology while our brother and sister's in the military get paid measly amount for putting their life at stake. If you are not ready to put in the needed amount of commitment, dedication in your work, stop bitching about it and GET THE HELL OUT OF THE LINE OF WORK. You make others , people who really love what they do, look bad, dammit.

First WPF App - NutPad++

Well other than the funny name, nothing about this little app is even remotely funny. I have been telling myself to learn WPF for sometime now and for me the best way to learn any language is to create a small application. I just completed the basic skeleton of application that i am modeling after notepad and notepad++. Here is a screenshot of the app

Nothing fancy, just a menuitem, a rich text box and a status bar. I will be first creating a simple notepad like application and then move to bigger thing’s like implementing MDI (its SDI for now). Stay tuned to this blog for more updates on my journey in the WPF forest ;-).

Google Template Hacked Or is it just Me !!!

This is a Google template i am using.

See the mating image there. It seems to come only in that template. One other aspect of this hacking was, i was using ShareAPic service for hosting my images and putting the thumb nail links here. But two of those images had been replaced with some obscene images. The screens i took was a the image of the whole page and so it is kinda very big image not in size (kb) but in height (pixels). You can the download the file from RapidShare. I uploaded it to rapidshare because i don’t have accounts to any other file uploading websites. Once i get hold a free provider i will change the link.

On a side note, ScribeFire didn’t really help when it came to replace these images in the Review. I had to go back to Windows Live Writer. Ok i gotta go now, gotta change the template and the ad settings. See ya later !!

Sniper – Art Of Victory with cheats

So i finally got bitten by the cheat bug and used it in this game. Blaming the bug would be secondary, i really got tired getting killed in the first mission once i crossed the bridge, yeah i know i am not really a good sniper but i am trying!! . I was just not able to get across the three ever observant guards. I tried couple of times but no luck, one of them was throwing grenade’s at me for god’s sake, where is the justice in that. Anyway's, if you wanna play in cheat mode all you need to do is Press “~” symbol once the game loads and type “Cheat.GodMode()” and Press the Enter key. It will enable god mode, remember if you want to disable it, just type the same text and it will be disabled. Once you are in god mode, you can go stand right in front of the freaking soldier

and slowly take out your knife and kill him. Trust me, its fun the first couple of times but kinda gets boring. Couple of other cheats are, Cheat.AddAmmo() , gives lot’s of ammo’s, and Cheat.GiveAllWeapons(), gives all the weapons. These three are the only cheats that i used in the game. I was able to progress couple of missions in the game but nevertheless lost interest in my immortality. Problem is, once you know that any amount of bullets is not gonna hurt you, you tend to get a bit cocky and start a shooting spree which is not exactly the objective of the game is it ? Anyway's, i got stuck at the level where i am supposed to kill a general, apparently i wasn’t hiding properly. See even being in God Mode didn’t help me clear the level. After that i never got time to go into the game again, maybe one of these days when i do get time i might just go in normal mode and teach those soldier’s who’s the boss in the game :D.

Sniper - Art of Victory

I recently bought this game and It’s easily one of the best games that i have played. Just like sniping needs a lot of patience, this game also needs. Now and then the sniper is hiding so carefully that no amount of waiting is able to draw him out. I sometime’s go stand in front to draw the sniper out and then run back to hide and start sniping. You can’t just charge to the enemy territory shouting the war cry, within minutes you will be dead meat. I am still trying to finish the first mission where i am stuck near the bridge. I was able to finish of the sniper who shoots when i am the bridge but unable to come in terms with two of the enemies after i cross the bridge. Its just a matter of time, before i complete the mission. Nevertheless, patience is the key to completing this game, unless of course you have used cheat to enable God Mode ;-)

UCertify Prep Engine Review

I am posting after a really long time. Lots of stuff have happened in my life some good some bad, but all that is for another day. For now here’s a review i wrote about the UCertify’s Prep Engine. Sometime back I completed MCP in Web-Based Client Development in C# (Exam Number 70-528) using the .Net Framework 2.0 Web-Based Development published by Microsoft.

After that I received a mail from one of the UCertify staff to review one of their products, I choose MS .Net Framework 2.0 - Application Development Foundation (Exam Number 70-536). UCertify was kind enough to give me a free activation code for this exam. The User Interface is very simple and unique and has been designed with lot of insight to help users to understand the exam better and identify their weakness and strengths. I will explain what features are present in this prep kit and how it can be utilized. If you find the review lacking in any way, please do let me know.

The Prep Engine is designed in such a way that there is no need for us to download the engine for other set of exams. The Prep Engine lists all the prep-kits available with UCertify and with just a single click one can install the prep-kit and start cracking at the exams.

Features in UCertify Prep Engine

1. Exams

a. Normal Exams

In exam you are given either 15 or a number of questions that you choose. This exam must be taken when you start. Mostly the questions in this test cover most, if not all the concepts. Once the exam is over, you get to view the breakup of marks in each section, which would help you to focus and prepare accordingly.

b. Adaptive Exams

This exam is quite interesting and you get to analyze and learn in depth, the subject, in the course of the exam. The Kit monitors your answers’ to given questions and brings up the next question depending on the accuracy of answer given to the first one. This helps you to understand the question which you had answered and relate it to the upcoming question, consequently ending up in learning while you were getting examined!

c. Custom Exams

As the name says, you can customize the exam J Sounds cool, right? It is! Here is how you can play around with the number of questions, subject matter, time and most important, viewing answers!

You can specify the number of questions you would want from a particular section. To add questions from the selected chapter, you just need to click button. Once that is clicked, the view on your right hand side will get populated with the questions added to the test pool. Alas! There is no specific way to really select only certain number of questions from the chapters and add to the pool. We would need to select the chapter and add all the questions and then remove them manually. To an average user, this might be an extremely tedious job considering time as a vital factor in exam preparation. Now, I will stop complaining and get back to reviewing. Once you are done adding the questions, you can specify the total number of questions you would like to generate for the exam.

As seen in the above screenshot, we can specify the number of questions that the engine will randomly select. We can specify the number of minutes we wish to write the test and also the passing score. The exam can either be taken up in Test Mode or Learn Mode. In Learn mode, we can click the button, whereby it will display the answer for the particular question. In test mode we do not have this button and it will be like writing a real test where, you know, showing the answer is not really allowed: D.

2. Articles

As the name goes, this section has brief articles related to the .Net Framework along with a comprehensive Search feature. On the left side, Articles are classified under different categories, for ease of operation. For instance the “How to” category holds articles depcited in the screenshot.

Similarly, each section contains a specific set of questions and answers which enables the user to familiarize more with the .Net Framework. On other category, Study Notes ,contains the most common and difficult questions in .Net Framework. In the same lines, there are Study Tips which is important points to be noted, when preparing for the exam.

3. Flash Cards

Flash card’s are learning aids, where information is drilled our mind to aide memorization, by way of spaced intervals. In our case, specific questions are put forth by the engine and we need to type the answer and also grade them as “Correct”, “Incorrect” or “Not Graded”

4. Interactive Quiz

Interactive quiz enables us to take up a real-time exam. An Interactive Quiz is different from normal exams in two points

i. We would not be able to go back to previous items like we do in a normal exam

ii. Each question is timed individually

As you see in the above screen, we can choose the number of question that we want from each section. We can also set the maximum time required to answer a question. The interactive quizzes are designed to test one’s understanding of key concepts, that are required to pass the certification.

5. Reviewing Performance

The prep engine tracks all the test’s we take and it presents us a very brief performance report. We can go to the screen using the following section in the main screen.

Performance Report is categorized into 2 sections – Test History and Remarks. Under Test History section, Prep Engine provides us with a list of the exams we had taken. In the Remarks section, Prep Engine presents our performance in each of the exam. As you can clearly see in this screenshot, I have lot of catching up to-do with exam studies ;-)

6. Loading Other Tests

Adding other test’s to your local drive is just a click away! Once you click the button named “Install”, it check’s for the appropriate exam and downloads it to your machine. Then you would be all set to go ahead with the Test Kit.

Overall, it was a pleasant experience using Ucertify Prep Engine. Previously I had used Microsoft’ Prep Kit. It was refreshing to use Ucertify’s Prep Kit for a change. Though, I have not fully explored UCertify’s Prep Engine, I am certainly happy with what I have seen and learnt. Now It’s “Certify” time for me and hope to with study with full steam and clear the exams with with flying colors.

I have been working with collections for sometime now, i had always either deleted or added item in the collection but never updated. Today i had a need to do that, when i searched i couldn't find a direct method to get a item in a collection updated. After some confusing moments i ended up the following code

phew..!! After 5 years of postponing i am finally an MCP. I just need one more paper to complete MCTS Web. I don't see that happening this year as i have enough work to do both officially and personally. I have started to write down requirements for a small Google calendar like application for internal use. I am planning to do the whole thing with Asp.Net + Ajax. It would be a good experience for me. On a side note, i read it SharpDevelop's blog that they are looking for people to help out in fixing bugs in their latest(3.0) WPF version. I hope to contribute to some including the Asp.Net designer that i have been tinkering for so long.. Anyways gotta go now..

Project Asp.Net Editor begins..

I finally found a way to position the controls in a WebBrowser control. With that working i think i finally can start work on the Asp.Net Editor I have been thinking for a long long time now. I would be able to provide full support for dragging and dropping html controls and resizing them and also positioning them just like we do in Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Edition except that i have not yet figured out how to support web server controls. I am gonna start work on a stand alone prototype and finish it in couple of weeks. Yes i am slowly programmer ;-). I found a lot of help on positioning controls in a sample HTMLComponent released by Nikhil. This code was later released as WebMatrix.. Anyways there are lots of work to be done, including my official work. Gotta go now..

Hi there,

I know it's been a long time since i posted. These days i find myself working really hard :(. My back ache has gone from bad to worse. Mike mailed couple of weeks back saying he's gonna move the site to Asp. net so that means more fun for me ;). I am slowly brushing up my asp.net skills. I will also be writing the MCTS web certification next week. Other updates i am slowly learning XAML using SharpDevelop's latest offering. It's still in its alpha but it really looks promising. Initially i had started coding to include some control's into the toolbox as Daniel had suggested, but i never got around to finish it. I just installed the latest sharpdevelop 3.0 binary and it seem's they have already included it. What i am going to do now is pretty simple, I am going to use SharpDevelop's latest alpha offering to create a small photo management application fully in 3.0 IDE. This will help me learn the new features and also find more bugs with SharpDevelop 3.0. I sincerely hope this will go well, i plan to start this task next week or so.. i hope i dont get major work by that time..

PHP + Apache + MySQL + PhpMyAdmin + PhpBB

Finally i was able to install latest version of Php , Apache , MySql, phyMyAdmin and PhpBB. The automated installation of Php didn't work well in my machine. I had to completely remove and manually configure it to run with apache. Only PhpBB was a breeze to install and Apache too was pretty simple to install, however i need to remember to change my Htdocs path though. I just can't seem to find the link where i can actually do an online preview of the themes of PhpBB and download them if needed.. Anyways i am going to start work on IDevNet site once all is ready. I hope to complete it in another couple of weeks if all goes well..

Nhibernate and my woes

I am finally giving up on Nhibernate. I tried to configure it for Firebird for a small project of mine but no luck. I tried for three days and i couldnt find a guide that "I" could understand. There are tons of guide out there for SQL Server and Nhibernate but only one or two for firebird and Nhibernate. Unfortunately for me, i really didnt understand any of it. So for now, the billing project is going back to the small class i wrote for firebird, its not the best of the solution but neverthless for my small application that will do. I should be able to complete the application in another 4 days if i work 2 or 3 hours daily. I have two weeks to finish it starting now..

Update on Life and other stuff

Its been really long time since i updated my blog. Life has been hectic for me. Official duties has increased these days. They have also put me on to another project with java base. Not yet sure as to what my role is in that but i will get to know once they start assigning work. Talking about java, i recently completed SCJP 1.4. It was difficult writing that exam for "me". After 6 years i was writing a online exam and thankfully i cleared it with a respectable score. Next up would be the DotNet certifications. Other big news in my life is i am getting married soon, only two weeks back (June 3rd to be exact) i got engaged to Geetha Priya, my class mate from NIIT. It was long period of courtship which is finally blossoming into marriage. More details on that later, i will be updating a photograph me and would be(priya) in the same post soon enough. On other stuff, i finally have started work on the ill fated Billing Project and parallely working on IDevNet site static design. We finalized a design from www.openwebdesign.org. I just need add an appropriate logo and put some content to it. Well that's it from me now.. i will post more since i have net connection at home now. Hmmmm let's see if i am able to do that with all the work around ;-).

First day in Bangalore

Reached Bangalore last night. After a hectic day, just took sometime to post a blog. The city is the same as that i saw couple of years back. Nothing seems to have changed. Last day in pune

Yeap.. Yeap... This is my last day in pune. I am counting hours for my departure from pune city. I am getting transferred to Pune and I will join IBM Bangalore the coming Monday (26th Feb). I've had a love hate relationship with pune. I loved the climate here and my housing society where I stayed (it was so damn peaceful there). I hated the traffic here, the dust pollution the roads and some people who where so freaking insensitive about the cleanliness factor in the roads. Talking about traffic I hear it is much worse in blore and for me if pune is bad I don't even wanna think about blore now. I will worry about that when i start commuting to office. Got lots of work today and this week has been hectic for me and, surrendering the landline, talking to the house owner, interacting with the movers and packers guy. And to top it all our office work just increased big time, i have a deadline next week and i need to complete a major portion of the code by March 2nd. Oh man the next couple of weeks are going to be maaad. On Idevnet, me and mike have shortlisted a design from www.openwebdesign.org. Mike is having some hosting changes done, he is kinda leaning towards asp.net plan. If it works out we will doing the site Asp.Net otherwise we will move to back to php. In the meanwhile i need to get my php and asp.net skills sharpened to get the flow of the site development. Well people i need to go out for lunch, the friends have been asking for a treat and today we are going out for a small lunch. Once that is done need to sort out some minor stuff in office like surrendering desk keys and stuff and then i am done. I just need 10:30 to come, so that i can fly to the comforts of my home. Of course the madness will start again next week.. but that's a different story.. for a different time... Signing off for now, be good and do good :).

Windows Live Writer and other updates

I just reinstalled windows live writer. I am way too lazy to open up my browser and login to blogger and click a series of buttons and type my rant. So I installed writer to help me being lazy ;-). Just came from a coffee break, feeling refreshed now. The manager said he will confirm my transfer details today. Hopefully it shouldn't take longer than a week. In other updates, I plan to completely rewrite my Bill Tracking application that I wrote for my BIL's company. They needed some new features and I had to change my database design for that. I thought if I am going to change the database design why not change the code base and make it more OOP. I wrote the previous application in VB.net and the new version I am gonad do it in C#. Its time I seriously started learning C#, I mean with the current application its gonna be a relative easy since half of the code is gonna be database oriented and some of it are already there in another db related application I wrote. The main difficulty or the main rewrite comes in the form UI. I have planned some radical changes to the UI. I was drawing up some mockups in the free time I got today morning while traveling the bus. Couple of screens are left though, but gonna start with the base screen first and then proceed with it. Its really long time since i posted anything in my blog. I have been busy with one thing or the another. The work at office has been really hectic partially because of the new Java mod that i was asked to write. My java knowledge is not much which in turn increased the load on me. Anyways i have completed it to the best of my knowledge. Now its upto Dhruv or me to take it up later sometime. I have been asked to finish some VB (Yuppppieeeee !! :D) tasks before i touch anything else. Anyways, i have some more news that needs to be posted but i am lacking time. But one question begs an answer, why wasn't the fire doused ??. Was the fire too fierce to be brought down ??? or was it lack of fire fighting equipment ??

Frustrated with everything and other updates in life

Hey

Its me back, and right now i am basically frustrated about everything life. I have no idea why but i am just plain frustrated. Came back to pune today morning to start my usual job. Thankfully the work load is not much, since morning i have created 4 java files and pasted code from an old source file to the new one. This is what i have done since morning. Talk about goofing off in workplace. Since i don't have any immediate deadlines i can take it slow in office. But somehow i can't seem to take slow in personal life. I have got everything yet i have not got it. Just imagine, i got GP after 6 years but she is more 1000kms away from me and we meet once in 4 months and only for 4 hours. Since i landed in pune my health has been pretty bad, my body never got adjusted to the climate here. Every month, cold and fever and throat pain visit me and stay for sometime. I have gotten more than 10 injections in less than a year. And all of the injections have been antibiotics and exactly for the same reason.

As for exam updates, i finished 4 of them and i still have one paper left to complete. I honestly don't want to write my papers again EVER. I have started hating this exams over the years now. Granted it is partly my fault that i didn't study. But is it my fault the Madras university gave me sub standard study material. They proudly say they have long history of giving quality eduction. Total crap i tell you, the material is filled spelling mistakes and grammatical mistakes. Every single page in the book contains at least one spelling or grammatical mistake. To top it all one can clearly see that the content has been lifted from other published titles. The stuff that i wrote in the exam is nothing but crap. The statistics paper that i wrote is filled with crazy formulas that i invented at exam time.

It seems strange, it was like yesterday when i was in school. I was not one of the best in school till 10th partly due to high population ratio in class. But in 11th and 12th i was really good, teachers used to appreciate my hard work and i got good marks. In 12th my academics touched an all time high, I used to be in the top 5 or at least 10 rank holders except the first term. In the first term i flunked my computer paper and for that i studied hard and got 196 out of 200 for the final term computer paper. I was really really good with studies, i was....

I joined college and lost it all, i barely scratched the passmark in my first year and after that it has been down hill road for me as far as academics is concerned. I didn't give a damn whether i passed or not or i was not bothered about the marks i scored about. College was all about meeting new friends and having a lot of fun. Fun i did i have and the price i paid for it was a very badly scoring mark sheet. My so called close friend managed to study well, even though he preached the opposite. He actually got a first class and me another guy had to slog another extra 3 months to finish our final year papers. It was bad, really bad, i had lost all interest in studies. The only interest i had was learning computers, which has helped so far. It has got me where ever i am now and thank god i studied my computers well.

I am not sure what went wrong with MCA, i joined MCA in madras university with lot of high hopes and i didn't want to repeat the same mistakes that i committed in College. But it never was to be , i failed even worse in MCA. And today i have 5 papers as arrears and nothing to boast for academics except my 12th grade marks. Funny thing is i know what is wrong with my studies and what is that i am missing from my 12th. INTEREST spelt with a capital all along. I was not able to retain the interest that i had in school in college or in post graduation. I can always blame this on shoddy teaching methods adopted in my graduation and post-graduate classes. One classic example of my graduate teaching is the "professor" coming in the class and opens his book. He starts reading and asks the students to write down whatever he says. This was the Corporate Law paper they guy was supposed to take. Instead of explaining us the laws and all, he was vomiting everything he had studied (probably the previous night). How pathetic can professors get, i didn't bother to disturb coz i was too busy dreaming.

In school the teaching was so excellent, you could see the students looking forward for the accounts period. The maths teacher was not the best but she managed to make us understand everything in the syllabus. Ahhhh teaching for me has gone sub standard in B.Com and MCA. I remember the first period that i attended my MCA class. It was maths paper, she was teaching about Elements or something similar. There i was staring at the black board clueless as to what is being taught. The teacher hadn't bothered to ask the students as to what kinda maths background they came from. I personally came from a business maths background, which means there is less complexity when compared to the maths taught for engineering students. The end result after three attempts and a tuition class two days per week i was able to clear the paper in my 4th attempt. I can just keep going on and on and on and on about this shit teachers who taught me in MCA. Some of them are just plain pathetic freaks who couldn't construct a proper sentence in English. God help those who join Madras University. Take my advice don't join the correspondence division of Madras University. But if you have already joined, throw you material in the dustbin (that's their deserving place) and spend some bucks and buy the recommended reading material and don't bother attending any class, its not like those guys are going to teach you anything good. I am gonna retire for now, gotta work you see.I hope i finish some of the coding today at least for my conscience sake i need to finish it.

Its long time since i posted anything here. I have been intending to post something technical here but i really have not got the time or the patience to do it yet. Maybe when i start working from home i will find more time and patience(he he) ;-). Before i go, i wrote this poem couple of years back(2004 to be exact), its called Feelings. I wanted to wait till i got the official documents from the old company. I resigned two days back from ACS and joined IBM India yesterday as Senior Software Engineer. In a gap of a year i have gone from working for small company to one of the biggest companies in the world. Two years back, i never thought i would have the opportunity to work for IBM. Anyways, i got that dream realised now i gotta realise the MCAD dream. If you are wondering what that is, i have been planning to finish the MCAD certification for the past two years :(. Yeap, for the past two years, i have postponed writing that exam. Now i cannot postpone more, once i am done with my MCA exams, i will start with the MCAD papers. I can only hope i get through them with good marks. I gotta go now, the induction programme is today afternoon. Gotta attend those stuff, not sure why, but what the heck attend i will. Anyways I am happy with what i have right now and that's what counts in life ;-). Being happy in life is what counts :-)

The week has been pretty hectic. Didn't get a chance to blog all week except maybe for a day. Finally tomorrow my package will be release to the local public . Hopefully everything should go well.

After i finished my packaging work i read some comic's from http://thecomicproject.blogspot.com/. It was really refreshing to read some of the old Phantom comics that i grew up with. The blogger has also posted Madrake the Magician, he was another favourite of mine. Spent sometime reading, then my TL came online and we started fixing and discovering the bugs in the package. All seems to be well now, he has just said the package is all set to go and he is updating the main production server. I only hope all goes well with the user's also and they are able to use the tool effectively. OKAY!! i gotta go now, back to home to my room to play some games and do some .net programming. One of these days i gotta post some articles of technical nature in this blog. OK there's a long time for that. Gotta JETTT Nowwwwwwwwwww!!

Long time no see

Its been sometime since i posted and here goes. The weekend went well. Didn't do anything fruitful as usual. I was just lazing around the house and played some games and ate a lot. I recently started going to the Gym and trust me going to the gym is no kid stuff. I have to getup at 5:00 am and walk around 2.5 km's to the gym. There they give a variety of workout for each of muscle in the body. Well since i just started, i thankfully don't have to do it all and i gotta do some exerciese's for my Abs(stomach muscles) and my tripceps and biceps(Read hand muscles). The routine is fairly simple to say but very breath taking. Yep, after the routine i gotta lay down for 5 minutes to catch my breath. I gotta keep doing this till i my body gets the hang of it.

I mentioned games somewhere in my post above, i am gonna comment one game that i played over the weekend. The game's name is Indian Jones - The infernal machine. It's one hell of game, i was playing only a demo level and it seems fun so far. One of these days, i will have to cough up some cash buy that game and play the whole game. It looks interesting and from what i have played it promises to be interesting. I hope to get it say in december. I should have finished my exams by then and i will have lots of time to sit and play games.

Talking about exams, i gotta start taking down the syllabus and search google for some good material on it cause the material that the university gave me is downright rubbish and pathetic and stupid and put a lot of angry bad adjectives here. Pathetic i tell you, for the money we give them, they oughta get us atleast some good material. I sincerely hope to find some good stuff in google otherwise i am doomed in this exam also. Govindaaa Govindaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. OKay i gotta go now, gotta do some packaging and installation.

Fate, Matrix, Computer and the All powerful Human

Just one last post before i go. This link has a interesting take on one of my beleiefs. In the whole article, the author is talking about fate and choices that we as a human being take or should i say are forced to take. One of my long time beleief is that the most sophisticated computer ever created is us The Humans. We built the computer and essentially we are more powerful than the computer(machine). Yes the computer might have faster processing capabilites but we have something that the computer lacks. A event in a computer can only be so random and can be predicted to an extent what the computer's next move would be (unless you are being shot at or electrocuted ;-)), but with humans you cannot predict what's going on in the big thinking machine called mind. Okies enough rants and ramblings for today. I will leave you people at peace for now. This is an interesting topic, maybe i will write something on this later when time permits.

Just installed Qumana. Just got the whole setup done in this tool and i will be using this tool from now onwards to do my blogging, i find it a bit of a pain to open my IE or FireFox and login to blogger and do the posting. Expectation and my Confusion

Expectations are a funny thing in life. The definition for Expectation in WordWeb(Local Dictionary) is as follows

1. Belief about (or mental picture of) the future
2. Wishing with confidence of fulfillment
3. The feeling that something is about to happen
4. The sum of the values of a random variable divided by the number of values

None of the above meets of what I perceive expectation is except the first one. A lot of people have told me “Never expect things”. In this way I will never get disappointed in life. Even though I have stopped expecting things to happen, somewhere deep inside that nature has not changed. Not sure why but when friends don’t do thing’s I expect them to do, I get disappointed especially if it’s a new or old friend. I am going to stop my rant on this cause I know it’s absolutely meaningless to talk about this because compared to other things in life its pretty small and I will not let it take over mind. I have got better things to do in my life.

Yes, this is vikram and I am still alive and well. It’s been long time since I posted anything in my blog, a really long time I must say, say around 2 months. Anyways that's the past and I hope to be a regular rambler in my blog from now and I hope this is not one of my promises that I intend to forget. Sigh! One can only hope.

Anyways coming back to the events in my life, it has been pretty hectic in my office and in my personal life. Lots of stuff has happened since the last time I posted. For one I am not a contractor anymore which is a huge relief for me. I will be joining the company for whom I worked as a contractor in another month or so. More detailed news on that later. Another news in the pot is my crypto library for File/Folder protector is nearly done except for the comments and some minor refactoring. I am happy that I was able to complete it, kind of makes feel good. There are lots of projects for me in the pipeline; I just simply can't find time for the projects. Would need to handle to one by one guess. Now I got to finish that billing application today, if not fully at least the database connection and querying part I got to finish. That's a high priority project for me right now. This weekend me and rommie have plans to go for a small tour so might not be able to touch much code the weekend. So its better that I do some coding tonight and do some catching up with the project. In other news i have planned to join a Gym and improve my Oh so Hot body to a even hotter one. The instructor in the Gym I have the height but not the weight: O, can you believe it; she said I don't have the weight. I always thought I had the weight, oh well we can't have everything in life can we ;-). Ok expect another post from me be evening , I got to go and finish some minor script updates to Wise installation script. Will be posting after that. See you all after that.

Math and Personal Update

Long time since i wrote anything in my blog. Anyways i was reading this and found it pretty interesting. I am basically a commerce graduate and the math that i have studied is mostly business maths (Statatics type). I vaguely remember studying calculus and algebra, i have absolutely no idea what they are and how they are done. Probably when i get some free time after my current work i am planning to scout for some good high school math books and sharpen my maths knowledge. Anyways there's a long time left for that.

Other news updates in my life, on a personal side, life is not really smooth. Have some real bad problems but i hope to get it resolved in couple of months

or sooner. What's the point worrying about it when you cannot do anything about. I can only hope for a better solution to all my problems.

In office life has been very hectic, atleast i think it's hectic. There is a release schedule in first two weeks of August. Once that is done, i will get some freetime to concentrate on god knows what.

On the .net side, i am fully done with Crypto module update, there are some minor fixes that i need to put. I will be putting them and giving the code to Mike and Ivan for them to have a look. Then i am planning to release the mod alone in VBCity and i am hoping member's there would help me to test and help me to fix bugs and so on. It will another 2 or 3 weeks for this to happen or maybe more, it all depends on what i get first, the broadband or the pen drive :S.

File/Folder protector update

Just thought I'd update the status on the crypto module that i have been working on for a file/folder protector application. The current status is, its nearly complete and will be avaliable for testing (only the crypto module) probably in two or three weeks. I will get some time to do a unit/regression test on it this weekend and also planning to implement a small logging facility for the module. I checked Log4net but its way too complicated for my use so will be writing a small logger for this module and also which will be integrated into the IDN namespace once Michael gives the nod ;-). Anyways that's the update so far, will keep the blog posted on any changes i do in that module.

Rains and Other news

As for rains, it is not taking the name of stopping. The river or canal under the bund garden bridege is slowly filling up. If the rain continues for another 3 days then the bridge will submerge. Mumbai is already filling up and according to news reports yesterday's paper pune has already received its half its share of rainfall this year. To think it has only started raining, i simply can't comprehend what will be the state of roads if more rains are expected. The meteorlogical department says it will rain more. Lets wait and see if it really does. In other news, i have been told that i won't be moving out of pune for sometime. I initiall wanted a transfer to chennai but that doesn't seem feasible right now. Transfer to bangalore is not possible at all. So that's the news from my side for now. Gotta go and do some work ;-).

This is second day since it started raining. The roads in pune have started showing their real color. Its potholes and potholes everywhere. I came in the public transport today and the bus was swaying left and right in the potholes so badly that i felt as if i was travelling in a ship. I wonder when, pune government is gonna wake up and build roads like the ones we have in the camp road and the military area. Its really pathetic out there on the roads, especially where i stay (Hadapsar). I wonder when this all is gonna change :(.

p.s. I also wonder when i will stop wondering like this.

Anyways got lots of time to check it out. It seems michael is busy redesigning the site. Kudos to him and he is planning to put some sort of CMS system so that the site maintenance comes down a bit. Anyways gotta wait to see the full design of the site ;-). All the best mike :). Okay gotta go now and deal with bug :-(.
